The Christian Attitude: Holy or Unholy by Joseph Lancaster, Psy. D.

I truthfully wasn't sure what to expect when I first heard about Dr. Lancaster's book, The Christian Attitude: Holy or Unholy.  The title was a bit daunting and I wasn't sure exactly how to relate it to Gnosticism.  When I saw that Dr. Lancaster is associated with Dr. Stephen Hoeller, I knew that it was a book I had to look into further.

I was very impressed with The Christian Attitude after receiving my copy in the mail.  Dr. Lancaster covers Christian history, compares Gnostic to traditional Christian theology, and then covers the spiritual psychology of Christianity.  I found his book to be very well researched and extremely insightful.  Much of the Gnostic theology is based in Valentinian and Sethian traditions which are a little different then Sophian teachings, but these differences are minor and really do not effect the power of the book at all.

This book is fascinating and insightful.  A huge part of the Gnostic path is self-introspection and the insights into Christian Spiritual Psychology are very helpful.  The web site for Dr. Lancaster's book is http://www.secretchristianity.com/.
